What We Believe

To understand who we are you need to know what we believe. You should also know that we seek to base our beliefs on the truths of the Bible. Here are the main teachings at Christ Community Church.

About God

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He is one God existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. The purpose of all things is the glory of God. We believe that God is ‘in charge’ (sovereign) of all things.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Deuteronomy 6:4

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will. Ephesians 1:11

About Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless life and gave his life as a sacrifice for our sins. He arose from the dead on the third day to demonstrate his power over sin and death. Jesus Christ is the only way to God. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is of the same substance and equal in power and glory with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit inspired the writing of Scripture. He makes men and women aware of their need of Jesus Christ and brings them to faith. He is given to every believer at the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. As Christians we seek to live under his control daily.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. John 3:5

For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body–whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free–and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 1 Corinthians 12:13

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

About the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:13

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal. Psalm 119:105, 160

Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5

About Human Beings

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. All of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience called “sin”. Sin separates people from God in time and eternity and is the cause of the many problems of life.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet. Psalm 8:3-6

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6a

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2

About Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift to us. We can never earn or deserve God’s salvation. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are declared righteous in God’s sight and are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his or her life by faith. Those who truly believe are saved eternally and will never totally or finally fall away from God, but will continue in our faith until the end of life.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus… Galatians 3:26

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ… Romans 5:1

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:27-29

…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

About Eternity

People were created to exist forever. We will exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. There will be a final judgment at which those who have believed in Christ will be saved and those who reject Him will be condemned.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15
